Follow a Hobby and Improve Your Health
We all have at least one hobby, sometimes what we call a hobby might not be considered a hobby to someone else. Is there a definite description of what a hobby is? Defined by Dictionary.com, a Hobby is an activity or interest pursued pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation. I hear time and time again how much fun and relaxing a client’s weekend was as they told me about what they made, discovered, expressed, wrote, painted, and the list goes on and on. From my point of view as a massage therapist, I love when they talk about their recent ventures with their hobby. Stressed, tight areas of their body begin to relax, as they portal their self back in time and relive the experience. I know that experiences like this show how important a hobby is on our physical as well as emotional health.
Having a hobby has several benefits:
It’s Time for a Break
Hobbies give us a much-needed break from the daily work and routine. We, at times, are so exhausted that getting a break becomes a requirement. Hobbies provide us with something to look forward to, a change of our daily routine mindset, and allows us to relax.
Relieves Stress
For those who are under stress or anxiety, hobbies can help come out of that situation. Hobbies make us feel happy about our life and we get to enjoy and look at the brighter and better side of life.
Social Impact
Hobbies also have a social impact on our lives. There are some hobbies like yoga and dancing that require us to go out and be with or make new friends. You can sign up for a class such as cooking, painting, pottery to learn more about your hobby and develop new relationships with like-minded people. A hobby connects you with others and brings a lot of positives in your life.
Therapeutic
Hobby is a way to get pleasure from little things and reduce all the negative influences in our life. They take us away and lets us play, discover and grow. A hobby brings joy into our lives and lets us step into a new dimension to our lives that we never felt possible. Even the small accomplishments of finishing a book, crossword puzzle, or learning a new yo-yo move can bring about just the right amount of pleasure to get us to pursue our hobby even further.
Getting Back to Nature
Most of our lives are city or building bound. Finding your way back to nature, even if it is just in your backyard. Hobbies like gardening, hiking, and photography will not only connect with nature but will also end up making life a little like heaven. There’s something about being out in nature that refreshes your mind and spirit, reduces stress and brings forth a lot of positive vibes.
